British parliamentary delegation visits Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Lord Waverley, Chairman of the Britain-Uzbekistan All-Party Parliamentary Group, visited Uzbekistan on a fact finding trip between 20 and 25 March 2010, the UK Embassy in Tashkent said.

Whilst in Uzbekistan, Lord Waverley had a number of meetings with officials and representatives from the Oliy Majlis, the Ministry for Foreign Economic Activity, Investment and Trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Uzbek Ombudsman, the SCO and the British Council.

During the high-level talks at Uzbek Ministries Lord Waverley emphasized Uzbekistan’s key role in Central Asia being of strategic importance for Britain’s political and economic interests.

He called for more active contacts both at governmental and parliamentary levels and said that the Britain-Uzbekistan All-Party Parliamentary Group intends to contribute to this process. The purpose of the Britain-Uzbekistan All-Party Parliamentary Group is to foster parliamentary relations between Britain and Uzbekistan and its membership consists of Lords and Members of Parliament from all sides of the British political spectrum.

Lord Waverley (John Desmond Forbes Anderson, 3rd Viscount Waverley) is a British peer. He is one of the ninety hereditary peers in the House of Lords elected to remain after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999. The son of the second Viscount Waverley, he succeeded to his father’s titles in 1990. Educated at Malvern College, Anderson became a consultant to The CCC Group and a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs. He has received the Grand Cross of the Colombian Order of San Carlos in 1998 and the Jubilee Medal of Kazakhstan in 2002.
