Britain records the maximum daily number of deaths from COVID-19

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The number of patients who died in the UK in 24 hours from a disease caused by coronavirus was 379, the highest since 24 February 2021. According to data published on Tuesday on the website of government information, 120.8 thousand new cases of infection were detected in the country per day.

A day earlier, the authorities reported 142.2 thousand cases of infection and 77 deaths. In total, 150.6 thousand people died in the UK within 28 days after their tests for coronavirus showed positive results. At the same time, in the death certificate (an alternative version of statistics), the disease is mentioned in 174.2 thousand inhabitants, which is one of the largest indicators in Europe. Over the past week, more than 300 deaths per day have been detected three times in the country. The number of reported infections since the start of the pandemic has exceeded 14.7 million.

Currently, 19.8 thousand patients with COVID-19 are in British medical institutions, which is about half the number during last year's January peak. The published statistics do not take into account whether coronavirus infection is the main reason for hospitalization.

The increase in the incidence of COVID-19 is observed against the background of the rapid spread in the UK of the omicron strain of coronavirus, which, according to preliminary estimates of the authorities, is transmitted faster than previously known variants. He has already become dominant in the kingdom. In the fight against the pandemic, the authorities are focusing on revaccination of the population. 62.3% of Britons over 12 years old (35.8 million people) have already received a booster vaccine. 83% (47.7 million) of the kingdom's residents over 12 years old received both doses of the drug, and 90.4% (51.9 million) received one dose.
