Border demarcation agreement between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan registered with the UN

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the "high-level week" of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the necessary documents for the registration and publication of the Agreement on the Demarcation of the State Border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan were transferred to the UN Secretariat, in accordance with Article 102 of the Organization's Charter.

The agreement was signed by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on 22 December 2022, during the state visit of the Kazakh leader to Tashkent, and it entered into force on 4 July 2023. This document is the result of many years of joint work on the international legal formalization of the border between the two countries.

At a meeting on 25 September 2024, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan noted that the registration of the Agreement on the Demarcation of the State Border in the UN Secretariat is an unprecedented event for Central Asian countries regarding such documents.

They also emphasized the historical significance of this event, which serves as a confirmation of both countries' commitment to the principles of good neighborliness and eternal friendship, as well as the spirit of allied relations and readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation for common prosperity. This, in turn, will contribute to strengthening security and stability in Central Asia.
