Boarding schools received 3,000 devices for writing in Braille

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Boarding schools for visually impaired and blind children in Uzbekistan will receive 3,000 devices for writing Braille in 2019.

On 2 April 2019, a ceremony of handing over the first batch of equipment and audio books to specialized educational institutions was held at a boarding school for blind children in Tashkent.

Devices worth 2.77 million Russian rubles (more than 357 million soums at the rate of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan) will be purchased and delivered to Uzbekistan under an agreement concluded between the Society of the Blind in Uzbekistan, FRIEDASIA (South Korea) and the All-Russian Society of the Blind.

Boarding schools for visually impaired and blind children received the first batch of devices with slate pencils in the amount of 725 pieces. School representatives also received audiobooks from the Ministry of Public Education.

In August, it is expected that a second batch of devices will be delivered to Uzbekistan in the amount of 1,275 pieces, which will also be distributed among boarding schools for visually impaired and blind children.

Alisher Umarov, First Deputy Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan, expressed his gratitude to the Society of the Blind in Uzbekistan, FRIEDASIA, and the All-Russian Society of the Blind for facilitating the supply of equipment.

Now in Uzbekistan there are 14 schools for visually impaired and blind children, where more than 2.83 thousand children study. Over 823 teachers and 606 educators teach them.

For them, separately published textbooks on 145 titles. In the past two years, 30 textbook titles (33,628 copies) have been issued for visually impaired and blind children.

It is expected that for the 2019-2020 academiv year, 10 textbook titles will be issued in the volume of 13,840 units.
