Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Beijing recorded 290 days of good air quality in 2024, marking the highest figure since monitoring began, according to the city’s ecology and environmental protection bureau, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Good air quality days accounted for 79.2% of the year, 19 more days than in 2023 and 114 more than in 2013.

The number of days with severe air pollution dropped dramatically—from 58 in 2013 to just two in 2024, a 96.6% reduction.

The average PM2.5 concentration in Beijing in 2024 was 30.5 micrograms per cubic meter, meeting national air quality standards for the fourth consecutive year. PM2.5 measures particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 microns or smaller and serves as a key indicator of air pollution levels.

Compared to 2013, Beijing’s annual average concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide have decreased by 65.9%, 50%, 57.1%, and 88.7%, respectively, highlighting the city’s significant progress in improving air quality.
