Beeline launches 3G network in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Single communication operator Beeline (Unitel LLC and Buzton JV) launched third generation (3G) network in Samarkand in test mode. The citizens of one of ancient cities of Uzbekistan can access broadband mobile internet from Beeline at the speed up to 3.6 Mbps.

Unitel director-general Andrei Safronyuk said: “Launch of network in Samarkand allowed us to become leader on number of cities with 3G network and cover territory, where one third of population of the country lives. Now about 10 million people of Uzbekistan has access to high-speed mobile Internet from Beeline. Samarkand is the seventh city, where we have 3G network.”

Beeline launched the first 3G network in Uzbekistan for commercial use on 2 December 2008. The network supports HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) protocol. On 28 August 2010, the company launched similar networks in five cities of Ferghana region.

HSPA standard, supported by 3G networks of Unitel, ensures full-scale access to broadband internet both with 3G handsets and 3G-modems of Beeline. The company added that it started to distribute 3G-modems to Ferghana, Andijan and Namangan regions as well.
