Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan’s commercial banks bought foreign currency worth US$1.28 billion from the population in the first half of 2018, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said in a review of cash circulation in the first half of 2018.
According to the regulator, in the first quarter banks bought from the population US$420 million (3.4 trillion soums in equivalent) of hard currency.
In the second quarter, banks purchased foreign currency from the population for US$868 million (6.9 trillion soums).
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan noted that in the first quarter of 2018, through international money transfer systems, Uzbekistan receives US$950 million y, while in the second quarter it rose 1.4 times (US$1.33 billion).
