Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The former head of the Uzbekistan Triathlon Federation and the MMA Association, Otabek Umarov, announced on 14 August that, in connection with his main job, he is leaving the post of chairman of sports organizations. Instead, Secretary of the Security Council Viktor Makhmudov was elected chairman of the Triathlon Federation, and Defense Minister Bakhodir Kurbanov was elected chairman of the MMA Association.
After some time, a video message from several MMA athletes circulated on social networks, in which the wrestlers asked Otabek Umarov not to leave the post of head of the Association. Then, some sources reported that on 17 August, a meeting was held at the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan and Otabek Umarov returned to the leadership of the MMA Association.
On 17 August, at the National Olympic Committee, a meeting was held with Otabek Umarov, the new president of the MMA Association Bakhodir Kurbanov, athletes and coaches. Representatives of the regions joined the meeting with the help of the ZOOM platform.
During the discussions, Otabek Umarov, as before in an interview on 14 August, noted that he would continue to support the development of MMA in Uzbekistan and the activities of the Association, and also expressed confidence that under the leadership of Bakhodir Kurbanov, the team would be able to achieve its goals.
In addition, it is reported that there have been no changes in the composition of the leadership of the Association. Sherzod Tashmatov continues to serve as First Vice President, Murod Khonturaev as Vice President, and Zafar Kakhramonov as Executive Director.
