Bahodir Kurbonov likely to become President of the Uzbekistan Football Association
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) has announced that Bahodir Kurbonov, Chairman of the State Security Service, is the sole candidate for the presidency of the organization.
An extraordinary electoral Congress of the UFA will take place in Tashkent on 22 February 2025.
According to the UFA, on 20 January, the association requested its members to nominate candidates for the position. The Election Committee reviewed the submitted proposals for compliance with the Statute and Electoral Code of the organization. In accordance with the established procedure, the final list of candidates was submitted to the UFA Secretariat 30 days before the Congress.
On 12 February 2025, all UFA members received official notification regarding the date, venue, and agenda of the upcoming Congress, as required by Article 33 of the association’s Statute. Additionally, in accordance with the Electoral Code, the official list of candidates was published in the media.
Earlier, in January 2025, Abdusalom Azizov resigned as UFA President. He had held the position since July 2019 and was re-elected in September 2021.
In November 2024, Azizov stepped down as Chairman of the State Security Service, and in December, he was appointed Deputy Presidential Adviser on Youth Policy.
