Sports 06/08/2007 Australia youth team win Weifang Cup
Australia won the Weifang Cup (U-18) here recently after recording a 1-0 win over Uzbekistan in their match finishing the tournament one point ahead of hosts China.

Australia won four of their five matches winning the tournament ahead of second-placed China with Iran in third position. The only defeat for the Young Socceroos was against China who scored a late winner from the penalty spot.

Matt Mullen scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute.

"I’m very pleased with the performance of the team throughout the tournament especially considering the conditions which were challenging to say the least," said Australia coach Steve O’Connor.

The tournament is the first international outing for the current generation of Young Socceroos.
