Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An attempt to smuggle of an ancient coin from Uzbekistan to Türkiye was prevented, the press service of the Cultural Heritage Agency reports.
Experts examined the hand luggage of a passenger traveling from Bukhara to Istanbul and found a coin minted from red metal.
The coin passed the artistic examination by employees of the artistic examination department of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Bukhara Region. As a result of the research, it became known that the red copper coin worth “40 para” dates back to the reign of Sultan Abdulmajid I of the Ottoman dynasty and was minted in Constantinople in 1839.
The obverse of the coin shows the date of minting and the inscription: “Let the victory of Mahmud Khan bin Abdulhamid Muzaffar be honored.”
The coin was confiscated and offered to be transferred to the reserve of the Bukhara State Museum.
