Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent is currently hosting a major international fencing tournament. Of course, the whole world is watching this competition, since the tournament participants have the opportunity to get licensed points for the Tokyo Olympics.

A delegation of the Asian Fencing Confederation led by President Deirit Selco arrived in Tashkent to observe the tournament and today they visited the NOC as part of their stay. The guests of honor were met by the President of the NOC Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov.

“To begin with, I want to thank you for the visit. In our country, sport is developing more and more every year, of course this is all thanks to our Dear President and his initiative. The whole world already knows our athletes, every year they achieve more and more success. A simple example, 3 years ago in the Rio Olympics, our guys won 21st place among the 207 countries of the world in the team event. Every year the number of people involved in this sport is increasing. Our cooperation affects not only the development of sports, but also the popularization of fencing in Uzbekistan, ”said Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov.

In turn, Dairit Selso shared his opinion on the development of sports in our country.

“Indeed, I am pleasantly surprised to see such a beautiful building of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan. I lead the Olympic Committee of the Philippines and it should be noted that our organization is not so beautiful and luxurious. Uzbekistan has become one of the leading countries in Central Asia, where the sports sector is developed and the main reason I can say is the presence of strong sports schools in your country, including fencing. For example, the famous swordsman Sabir Ruziev knows the whole world. People who were engaged in fencing always achieved a lot of success in the field of sports. I can give an example, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin, President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach. Previously, the Japanese, Koreans, Chinese were advanced in many areas. And today, many teams have formed that can compete with them. This is the merit of the five founded continental confederations in Asia. We support the activities of the Central Asian Confederation in fencing, this will help the development of this sport throughout the continent. We are very pleased to have such close cooperation with the Uzbek side in the future,” said Dairit Selso.

During the meeting, programs on bilateral cooperation were discussed, at the end of the meeting gifts were presented to the honored guest.

Also, during his visit, Mr. Dairit visited the Republican Scientific and Methodological Center for Sports Medicine.
