As many as 5,000 attend “Iftorlik” charitable events
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As many as 5,000 have attended the iftorlik, holy month dinners, that have been organized across Uzbekistan to mark Ramadan holy month by Mehr Nuri Charity Foundation in partnership with the Forum of Socially Responsible Citizens.

This week holy month dinners have been held in Tashkent. Previously, the iftorlik took place in Samarkand, Bukhara, Shakhrisabz, Kokand, Andijan and Namangan.

One of the events held as part of the charity campaign is hashar, a volunteer-based clean-up effort, which has drawn local residents, members of Kelajak Ovozi (Voice of the Future) Youth Initiatives Center and the staff of information centers affiliated with the Forum of Socially Responsible Citizens. The previous cleanup events have helped to beautify city areas, historical sites and architectural complexes in six Uzbek regions. In Tashkent Region around 70 people joined the hashar held on the premises of Zangiota historical complex.

In the evenings, around 500 people representing socially vulnerable segments of the population were treated to festive meals. The event also included a presentation of a newly created organization, the Forum of Socially Responsible Citizens of Uzbekistan, which has been given the goal of uniting the efforts of partner organizations and citizens to support projects that have social implications.

In addition, the charitable event includes workshops for the potential participants of the Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurship and Farming Development Grants Program set up by Mehr Nuri Foundation. During the workshops those attending receive information on the Program and on how to develop projects for the competition-based program. Besides, the participants who have made to the second round of another Mehr Nuri project, Family Entrepreneurship Development Grants, give presentations of their business plans.

Entrepreneurs who have stepped forward to help organize the campaign have been honored with Certificates of Gratitude presented on behalf of Gulnara Karimova, the chairwoman of the Public Council of the Forum of Socially Responsible Citizens of Uzbekistan.

Mehr Nuri Foundation has run the charity project since 2005. Starting this year the project is being run in collaboration with the Forum of of Socially Responsible Citizens of Uzbekistan. This kind of events are held during Navrouz holiday and Ramadan holy month. Thus far, iftorlik has been held in Bukhara, Samarkand, Kashkadarya, Ferghana, Andijan and Namangan Regions.

In Samarkand the iftorlik was held on the site of the famous Imam al-Bukhari Complex. In Bukhara, Mir Arab Madrasah was the venue for the event while in Kokand the dinners were served at Jome Complex. The other regions set to host the event include Tashkent city, Khorezm Region and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
