Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the XV Tashkent International Film Festival, the annual competition for young filmmakers “Cinema in Five Days” will be held.

This year, 14 young filmmakers from 7 universities in the CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan will take part in the competition.

On 23 September, a special press conference dedicated to the international youth competition “Cinema in Five Days” was organized on the first floor of the new Ivent Hall in Tashkent.

During the press conference, officials, members of the jury, as well as the contestants themselves made welcoming speeches.

The next day, on 24 September, the participants will go to culturally and historically significant locations throughout the country, where they will shoot their films on the theme “Uzbekistan - my dream!”

Kazakhstan – Ark fortress in Bukhara

Kyrgyzstan – Akhsikent settlement in Namangan

Moldova – Sitorai Mohi-khosa Palace in Bukhara

Russia – Margelan silk weaving factory

Tajikistan – Hazrati-Imam ensemble in Tashkent

According to the rules, a film crew of seven young domestic film specialists will be assigned to each team of two people. In total, the participants will have five days to prepare the film - three days for the filming process, a day for editing, and the fifth day for dubbing.

The works of the contestants will be appreciated by real masters of world cinema. One of the most famous and beloved Uzbek directors, Ali Khamraev, will act as the chairman of the jury. The jury also included:

One of the most titled Russian directors, winner of the Venice and Cannes Film Festivals, Alexander Sokurov;

Afghan film director and producer, Golden Globe and Cannes Film Festival winner Siddiq Barmak;

Popular Uzbek film director Shukhrat Makhmudov;

Famous Turkmen director Khojakuli Narliev.

A press conference on the completion of work on the “Cinema in Five Days” competition projects will be held on 30 September in the conference hall of the Tashkent House of Cinematographers at 16:15. The winners will be awarded with valuable prizes and an open air dedicated to this event will be held in the amphitheater of the House of Cinematographers on 1 October at 17:00

The “Cinema in Five Days” competition will be held as part of the Tashkent International Film Festival for the third time. In 2021, representatives from more than 20 countries took part in the competition. Including from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, India, Iran, Spain, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Mexico, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Philippines, France, Switzerland, Estonia, South Korea and Japan. In 2022, participants from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, India, Israel, South Korea, Romania, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan competed for the prizes of the competition. Teams from Uzbekistan became winners for two years in a row. This year, Uzbek filmmakers are not taking part in the competition, but will compete among themselves.

The main goal of the “Cinema in Five” program is stimulating young filmmakers to create new films and introducing foreign colleagues to the traditions and culture of Uzbekistan.
