Analytical report on Internet development presented at UzACI
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 March 2010, the presentation of analytical report “Analysis of current state and perspectives of Internet development in Uzbekistan” was held in Communications and Information Agency of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. The event brought together main players of information and communication sector of the country.

In order to capture progress and reflect on development issues of the Internet sector of Uzbekistan the UNDP Project “Assisting the government of Uzbekistan in the formulation and implementation of ICT policy” (ICTP Policy) in cooperation with Communications and Information Agency of Uzbekistan and Scientific Engineering and Marketing Research Center “UNICON.UZ”, prepared the report “Analysis of current state and perspectives of Internet development in Uzbekistan”.

The aim of the following report is to present expert views on qualitative and quantitative indicators on current state, main factors and perspectives of the Internet development in Uzbekistan.

Analytical report was prepared on the basis of official statistical information from the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the results of interview with officials of regulatory bodies, expert opinions of market players on current condition and perspectives of the Internet development.

The report marks the positive tendency in development of Internet access and Internet service providing and observes an increase in the number of Internet users, an introduction of new services, development of national information resources and reduction of Internet access fees. In particular, it is noted that during last year the number of broadband Internet users increased twofold and stated that there were more than 69 thousand users.

Majority of the interviewed Internet service providers (73%) believe that a priority in development of Internet-resources should be given to the expansion of educational and learning online resources. Along with this, the report summarizes market players’ opinion on existing development challenges and provides recommendations how to address them.

More than 30 representatives from government and private sectors attended the presentation.
