An expert group for countering anti-Muslim hostility has been created in Germany

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany announced the creation of an advisory group of experts on combating anti-Muslim hostility in the country, operating on the principle of a committee to counter anti-Semitism.

According to the head of the department H. Seehofer, "anti-Muslim sentiments pose a threat not only to Muslims, but also to the cohesion of society." And the state, from the point of view of the minister, needs to take into account the opinion of the independent expert commission, which "will help to take more effective and targeted measures."

The group should include 12 experts from among representatives of science and civil society. The Central Council of Muslims of the FRG should become the "locomotive" of the new structure. The group is given 2 years to present the final conclusions.

Commenting on the creation of an expert group on countering anti-Muslim hostility, experts draw attention to the following points.

First, the growth of Islamophobia in Germany. Y. El-Menoir, an employee of the Bertelsmann Foundation, notes that Islam has ceased to be “perceived as a religion” in society, having turned into a “political ideology”. About 50% of German citizens believe that Islam is a threat.

Second, there remains a significant number of sectarian crimes. In 2019, 871 attacks were carried out in Germany against Muslims, various Muslim institutions and organizations. As a result of these crimes, 2 people died, 33 were injured. In 2018, 910 crimes motivated by Islamophobia were committed in the country.

Third, the decline in Muslim confidence in the authorities. According to the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, Muslims no longer feel safe and the state is obliged to take action. The FRG authorities are responsible for ensuring that all residents of the country can practice their religion without fear and without being subjected to violence.

In general, the growing threat of Islamophobia in German society is forcing the government to respond to such incidents in order to preserve public safety.
