An exhibition of traditional Uzbek embroidery opens in Baku

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An exhibition of traditional Uzbek embroidery “Silk Stories” has opened in the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum in Baku, Dunyo reported.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Baku together with the Ministry of Culture and the National Museum of Carpet of Azerbaijan in the framework of the conference “Museums, Textile Collections and Prospects for Mutual Cooperation”.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Baku, socio-political and creative circles of Azerbaijan, the media.

At the exhibition, samples of Suzanne embroidery of the late 19th-20th centuries from all regions of Uzbekistan, ancient ikat, traditional clothes, pile carpets and a collection of textile dolls made of silk and cotton are widely presented. The exhibition also includes looms used for the manufacture of fabrics.

The visitors of the exhibition were presented with videos on the process of manufacturing and using fabrics using ancient and modern technologies.

Speaking at the opening, the director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum Sh.Melikova noted that holding such events provides an opportunity for Azerbaijanis to get acquainted with the culture of our country, helps to establish, strengthen and develop ties in the field of culture and art, as well as brings people together. It was emphasized that this event is of great importance for scientists, artists and researchers in the search for interesting ideas and fruitful cooperation.

The head of the department of museums of the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan Shahlo Abdullayeva acquainted the participants with the history of suzane embroidery and silk weaving technology in Uzbekistan, the features of the patterns and other subtleties of this type of folk art.
