Amendments to Criminal-procedural code introduced
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to Criminal-procedural code of Uzbekistan” on 5 January 2012.

Legislative Chamber approved the law on 1 November 2011 and Senate approved it on 5 December 2011.

The main aim of the law, which expands cases of opening cases and launching of criminal investigation on appeal of victim, is further liberalize criminal-procedural procedure.

The document said that criminal cases on crimes, envisaged in first part of article 105, article 109, first part of article 110, article 111, first part of article 118, first part of article 119, first part of article 121, article 136, first and second parts of article 139, first and second parts of article 140 and article 149 of Criminal-procedural code, are opened only on appeal of victims.

The law said that in exceptional cases, when victims cannot make appeal due to their conditions or other reasons, prosecutors will open criminal cases without appeals.
