All registered parties in Uzbekistan intend to participate in parliamentary elections

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — All five regional parties registered in Uzbekistan have submitted the necessary documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to participate in the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 2024, according to a statement from the CEC press service.

According to Uzbekistan’s legislation, political parties must be registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan at least four months before the start of the election campaign. Additionally, they are required to collect at least forty thousand signatures from voters supporting their participation in the elections.

The signatures collected from each administrative-territorial unit, including the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regions, and the city of Tashkent, must not exceed eight percent of the total number of electoral districts that need to be established across the country.

According to the CEC, on 16-17 August, the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Democratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish," the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, and the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" submitted applications for election participation through the "E-Saylov" system and provided the CEC with collected signature sheets for review.

The CEC press service noted that the accuracy of the signature lists submitted by the political parties will be verified by CEC experts within five days.

It should be noted that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan will be held on 27 October. The election campaign began on 26 July.

For the first time, the elections will be conducted under a mixed majoritarian-proportional system: out of 150 seats in the Legislative Chamber, 75 deputies will be elected from single-member districts, while the remaining 75 will be elected from a single nationwide constituency based on votes cast for political parties.
