Al Karamah 1-0 Nasaf
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A second-half penalty by Hassan Abbas was enough to hand Al Karamah a 1-0 victory over Uzbeks Nasaf Karshi at Khaled Ibn Al Waleed stadium and send the Syrians through to the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup.

Nasaf had failed to covert a penalty of their own just before the hour mark and the hosts made them pay when Haani Al Taiar was fouled inside the area and Abbas stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Backed by a large home support, Al Karamah were the first to threaten after just six minutes but Ahmed Al Omier’s shot was saved by Dmytro Kozachenko.

The visitors created their first chance two minutes later when Hamza Karimov struck a rasping drive from outside the area that flew wide of the left upright.

The hosts forged another opportunity with 15 minutes on the clock as Aattef Jenniat’s corner was headed just wide by defender Richard Bahomo.

Nasaf then had the best chance for either side eight minutes later when Kamoliddin Murzoyev sprung the offside trap to go one-one-one with Mosab Balhous but the keeper did well to make the save.

Jordanian midfielder Hasan Abdel Fattah saw his 32nd minute effort deflected over for Al Karamah while Nasaf had a chance four minutes later when Murzoyev’s corner was headed down by Islom Inomov but the ball bounced over the crossbar.

Nasaf pressed at the start of the second half and were handed a golden chance to take the lead just before the hour mark when Rustam Kadirov was fouled inside the box. Murzoyev stepped up to take the penalty but Balhous guessed the right way to deny the Uzbeks and send the home fans into rapture.

That spurred Al Karamah on and they took the lead from a penalty of their own after Botir Karaev pulled on the shirt of Al Karamah substitute Al Taiar inside the area and Abbas made no mistake from the spot to give the hosts the lead with 14 minutes remaining.

Nasaf went on the attack in the remaining minutes of the game and should have scored a late equaliser through substitute striker Kenja Turaev but his shot from inside the area flew wide as Al Karamah held on for the win.
