Al Ittihad and Bunyodkor share spoils again
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Al Ittihad secured first place in Group C of the 2011 AFC Champions League as Nuno Assis' goal saw them come from behind to draw 1-1 with Bunyodkor at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium.

Milos Trifunovic had given Bunyodkor the lead with a header after 14 minutes before Assis levelled for the hosts just after the half-hour mark to ensure the spoils were shared.

It means the Saudis can look forward to a home tie in the last 16 while Bunyodkor will now have to win on the road if they are to progress further in this year's competition.

With both sides already having qualified prior to kick-off, the only outstanding issue was who would finish top of the group and it was Bunyodkor who took the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Anvar Gafarov's cross from deep on the right flank picked out an unmarked Trifunovic inside the box and the forward glanced a deft header past the diving Mabrouk Zaid and into the corner of the Al Ittihad goal from six yards.

It did not take long for Al Ittihad to recover, though, as a slick move saw Assis square the contest in the 31st minute.

The midfielder played a neat one-two with Mohammed Al Rashed down the left that saw him dash into the box and bear down on goal. The Bunyodkor defence seemed strangely reluctant to close him down and Assis was allowed to run unchecked into the six-yard box before lifting a tidy finish over the advancing Ignatiy Nesterov and into the far corner.

Trifunovic then headed narrowly over from a long throw before Nesterov experienced a busy end to the first-half.

First, the Bunyodkor keeper was forced to push Paulo Jorge's swerving effort over the bar from fully 40 yards before he was called into action again shortly after to deny Al Rashed's header.

However, the best was yet to come as three minutes from the interval, Nesterov somehow managed to parry Abdelmalik Ziaya's shot after the forward had smashed the ball from point-blank range towards the near post.

The second-half failed to live up to the first as the contest petered out. Nesterov did well to keep out a powerful free-kick from Mohammed Salem in the 70th minute and although Assis knocked the ball back into the danger zone, Jorge volleyed over.

Victor Karpenko then tested Zaid in istoppage time as both sides were forced to settle for a point apiece.
