Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Akiko Fujii has been appointed as the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan, according to the organization’s press service.
Fujii, who brings over 25 years of experience with UNDP, has held senior positions in various countries. Prior to her assignment in Uzbekistan, she served as the UNDP Resident Representative in the Maldives, Deputy Resident Representative in Vietnam, and held key roles in multi-country offices in Fiji (covering Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu), as well as Jamaica. She has also worked in Sudan, Tokyo, and Pakistan.
Before joining UNDP, Fujii worked with development organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna, Austria, and a community development NGO in Kyoto, Japan.
She holds master’s degrees in Gender and Development from the University of Sussex, UK, and in Human and Environmental Studies from Kyoto University, Japan.
