Human Rights Commissioner of Uzbekistan (ombudsperson) organized the event, the Secretariat of the Ombudsperson said.

The event was attended by Catalonia Ombudsperson and director of the European branch of International Ombudsperson Institute Rafael Ribo and head of Catalonia Ombudsperson Office Judith Makaya.

During the roundtable, it was noted that the event provides good opportunity to exchange opinion on human rights. It was said that Ombudspersons of Uzbekistan and Spain signed an agreement of cooperation, signed on 11 October 2007 in Madrid.

Within the agreement, Ombudspersons of Uzbekistan and Spain exchange visit to exchange opinion and experience on protection of human rights.

Roundtable participants said that Uzbekistan regularly improves mechanism on protection of rights and freedoms of human. It was noted that Uzbekistan created mechanism on protection of human rights and improves activities of Ombudsperson institute.

From 2000, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov initiated regional Ombudspersons to improve the activity of the Human Rights Commissioner.

Currently, representatives of Human Rights Commissioner operate in all regions of Uzbekistan. They render assistance to Ombudsperson to receive and consider applications of citizens in places.

Representatives of Senate, Legislative Chamber, Supreme Court, Prosecutor General, Justice Ministry, Interior Ministry, Healthcare Ministry, NGOs and state bodies, as well as diplomatic corps participated at the roundtable.
