MPs of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, representatives of Independent Institute of Monitoring of forming civil society, Mahalla Foundation and others participated at the meeting.
The goal of the event is to study effectiveness of implementation of laws directed at further expanding rights and authorities of the citizens’ self-governing bodies, in particular, mahallas, to social support of population, development of private and family business, expansion role of mahallas in public control over state bodies.
It was noted that Uzbekistan adopted a law “On citizens’ self-governing bodies” and “On election of chairpersons (aksakals) of citizens’ gatherings and their advisors” in new edition.
It was said that the special attention was directed at strengthening material-technical base of the citizens’ self-governing bodies. During the event, the participants considered a report of the special group, which studies activities of citizen’s self-governing bodies in Tashkent and Jizzakh regions, as well as Karakalpakstan.
It was noted that there are 9,794 citizens’ self-governing bodies, of which 1,165 work in Tashkent region, 305 0 in Jizzakh region and 401 – in Karakalpakstan. They provide social support to young families, material aid to families with many children, etc. The citizens’ self-governing bodies also boosted their activities on public control over activities of the state bodies.
The session also considered some shortages, which were revealed during the study.
