"The first reason (for joining) is that Kuruvchi a participating with great success in the AFC Champions League," the 26-year-old said at a press conference in Tashkent on Tuesday.

"Kuruvchi is also doing very well in the (local) league and the football in Uzbekistan is very strongly developed which are other reasons that convinced me to agree to join."

Villanueva, who was presented with the number 17 shirt by Kuruvchi Vice President Tavakkal Ismailov, adds additional firepower to an already potent strike force which has so far helped the Uzbek league leaders rack up an incredible 43 goals in 14 domestic matches this season.

And the former Vasco de Gama, Universidad Catolica, and Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i striker is ready to play his part in Kuruvchi’s continuing charge to glory at home and in the AFC Champions League.

"A team cannot play with one player and everyone in the team has to work together," he said.

"And I have no doubt that with this team I can show my best game for Kuruvchi."

Kuruvchi continue their AFC Champions League campaign on September 17 when they take on Iranian side Saipa in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
