About 110 girls improve their knowledge in IT and innovations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- About 110 girls received opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in information technologies and innovations within the framework of Women Techmakers 2018 International Women’s Day Celebration (IWD).

Women Techmakers is Google’s brand and global program for women in technology. We provide visibility, community, and resources for women in technology to drive innovation and participation in the field.

The activities of Women Techmakers are designed to promote creation of conditions for participation of women in the field of high technology.

The organizers of the Women Techmakers IWD are the Google Developer Groups (GDG) Tashkent with the support of Inha University in Tashkent, the joint project of Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan and UNDP project “Public Administration Reforms and Digital Transformation”, Super Dispatch, Eskiz and Tudor.

Women Techmakers IWD is the first event of the GDG Tashkent developer community, which was established in February 2018, which was established by students of Inha University in Tashkent. The event was dedicated to International Women’s Day.

The event, which was held at Inha University in Tashkent on 11 March 2018, consisted from two parts.

Baris Yesugey, Google Developer Ecosystem Region Lead: Turkey, Caucasus, Central Asia, took part in the opening of Women Techmakers IWD.

Professor of Inha University in Tashkent Kirti Seth conducted a lecture about women in computer science.

During the event, the participants of Women Techmakers IWD familiarized themselves with experience of women developers, who work for such companies and startups as Uztelecom, MyTaxi and others.

Within the Women Techmakers IWD, the participating girls received knowledge on creating software on Java, Telegram-bots, software testing, algorithms, etc.

IUT Rector Sarvar Babakhodjaev commented: “We are happy that we organized Women Techmakers IWD. We pay great attention to capacity building and empowerment of girls and women in ICT via holding various educational events. Empowering women potential, we can end gender gap in technology. Inha University in Tashkent will continue to support initiatives directed at capacity building and empowering women.”

Kamila Mukhamedkhanova, leader of Cluster on Good Governance, Policy and Communication at United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan, said: “Women all over the world are already showing their leadership abilities in scientific and technical progress, and our goal is to change history and encourage women and girls of Uzbekistan. In order to achieve our goals, we must make our efforts to involve girls in high technology to from an early age.”
