A state body for social protection to be established in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- UNICEF welcomes the decision of the Government of Uzbekistan to create a State body for social protection, as set out in the State Programme for 2019.

UNICEF believes that establishing a state body responsible for setting the social protection strategy   and consolidating social protection functions from various ministries will maximize the return on the considerable investment Uzbekistan is making in social protection and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the system overall. A strong social protection system is particularly important in times of economic reforms to protect the population from unforeseen economic shocks.

“This is a critical announcement for the country. The Government’s reforms are clearly aimed at taking Uzbekistan’s to the next level of development. With the political will and commitment, now is the right time to ensure that the social protection system effectively responds to the evolving needs of the population and is aligned with the aspirations of Uzbekistan,” said Sascha Graumann, Representative, UNICEF Uzbekistan.
