Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — 15 May marks International Day of Families worldwide — a commemorative date established by UN General Assembly resolution 47/237 in 1993.
Every year, this day serves as an important platform to draw attention to pressing family-related issues and to raise awareness about socio-economic and demographic processes that affect family well-being.
In 2025, the theme of International Day of Families focuses on promoting family-centered approaches within national development strategies. Special emphasis is placed on the need to adapt state policies to contemporary global challenges such as technological transformations, demographic shifts, urbanization, migration flows, and climate risks.
In Uzbekistan, the celebration of International Day of Families was marked by a large-scale public event held on 16 May 2025. The initiative was organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with the support of the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Family is not only a foundation of personal well-being but also of a sustainable and just society. Within its global mission to ensure rights, health, and equal opportunities for women, youth, and vulnerable groups, UNFPA continues to promote inclusive, safe, and sustainable models of family life.
The festive event aimed to popularize the family as a space of love, support, equality, and mutual respect. Particular attention was given to creating conditions where every family, regardless of social status or life circumstances, feels accepted, protected, and heard.
The program brought together over 1,000 participants and featured a variety of activities:
A craft fair showcasing handmade items from more than 30 artisans, including original works created by children with disabilities and women facing difficult life situations;
Family interactive zones with contests, play areas, themed spaces for father-daughter interaction, quizzes, and entertainment for all ages;
Creative workshops including art therapy, face painting, gingerbread decorating, and other activities designed to foster imagination and shared family time;
An interactive entertainment program with hosts, live music, contests, and prize giveaways;
Rest and social spaces thoughtfully arranged to ensure guest comfort and encourage informal interaction.
The celebration stood as a vivid example of successful partnership between government bodies, international organizations, and private sector representatives. It demonstrated that only through joint efforts can a strong foundation be built to reinforce family values, enhance social cohesion, and promote sustainable development.
