Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 June 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoev visited the city of Stockholm, where it held talks in Parliament, as well as several ministries and departments of Sweden.
According to the Embassy of our country in Berlin, during the meeting with the First Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag (Parliament) of Sweden Asa Lindestam and the head of the Swedish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Boriana Aberg, the Swedish side was thoroughly acquainted with the political, legal and social economic reforms, opportunities for enhancing inter-parliamentary contacts were also discussed.
On the same day, round tables were held at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Agency SIDA and the Stockholm International Water Institute SIWI with the participation of the responsible leaders of these departments. A constructive exchange of views took place on practical aspects of the development of relations in bilateral and multilateral formats, and prospects for the development of interaction in the fields of security, economics, ecology and other spheres were discussed.
Special attention was paid to the possibility of support from Sweden of the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan to prevent the negative consequences of the Aral disaster, including within the framework of the Multi-Partner Human Rights Trust Fund established for the Aral region region initiated by our country under the auspices of the UN. The Swedish side expressed readiness to establish close cooperation with Uzbekistan to promote the development of the republic’s water sector through the implementation of joint projects with the participation of Swedish companies.
A constructive exchange of views on promising areas of bilateral cooperation was also held during the meetings held in the Swedish Trade and Investment Council “Business Sweden” and with the leadership of the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics.
The parties discussed the possibilities of enhancing cooperation in the field of investment and trade, including through the organization of business missions, participation in exhibitions and fairs held in the two countries.
