Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- It is a little over two months before the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, but it is still unclear whether it will take place. Almost 60% of local residents are in favor of canceling or postponing the Olympic Games in Tokyo due to the next wave of coronavirus infection, according to a poll conducted by the Yomiuri Shimbun publication.

Nearly 60% of respondents said the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics should be canceled altogether. The remaining 40% noted that the Games should be held with a limited number of spectators or without them at all.

The Tokyo Olympics are slated to run from July 23 to August 8, 2021. Games will be held without foreign fans, the decision on the admission of Japanese residents will be made in June this year.

The situation with the coronavirus in the Land of the Rising Sun remains quite difficult. In the past months, an emergency regime was introduced in Tokyo, on May 7 it became known that it was extended until the end of the month.
