517 candidates to compete for 135 seats at Legislative Chamber
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan registered 517 candidates for deputy of the Legislative Chamber (lower house), who will compete for 135 places.

The commission said 123 candidates represent the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, 125 candidates - the Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, 135 candidates - the movement of entrepreneurs and businesses - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and 134 candidates - the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan.

The Central Electoral Commission said it paid special attention to adherence to requirements of article 22 of the Law “On elections to Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan”, which envisages that 30% of total candidates should be women.

The commission said female candidates accounted for 31.9% of all the candidates. About 32.5% of candidates from Adolat Social Democratic Party were women, 31.2% - Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party, 31.9% - Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and 30.6% - People’s Democratic Party.

At the same time, four candidates from three parties were denied registration because they had not submitted all the required documents, according to the report. The commission said it refused to register two candidates from the Adolat party and one candidate each from of the Milliy Tiklanish party and the People’s Democratic Party.

In line with the changes to legislation, Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan will receive 15 seats in the Legislative Chamber directly.
