2025 declared as Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The year 2025 has been declared as the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, noted that the negative consequences of climate change are felt not only in Uzbekistan but also in many countries around the world.

“Air and water pollution, soil erosion, desertification, and the uncontrolled use of fossil fuels lead to global warming, increased natural disasters, and severe damage to the environment and public health,” the president stated.

In response to these challenges, Uzbekistan launched the nationwide initiative “Green Space” three years ago and began implementing a Regional Climate Strategy in collaboration with neighboring countries. Additionally, the University of Central Asia was established in Tashkent, specializing in the study of climate change and environmental issues.

Particular attention is given to promoting initiatives on the international stage: Uzbekistan has proposed two key UN resolutions in the environmental field. At the same time, green energy is already becoming a crucial driver of the country’s economic growth.

Taking into account the opinions and suggestions of citizens, the president proposed to elevate this activity by declaring 2025 as the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan. This initiative was fully supported by the attendees.

The government is tasked with developing a national program that will focus on the most important objectives identified as priorities for the current year.

The program will specifically highlight the implementation of green technologies, water conservation, a significant increase in green spaces, mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea disaster, waste management issues, and most importantly, improving public health.

The head of state expressed confidence that this new period will be one of dynamic development for the New Uzbekistan, reaching even greater heights of progress.

It should be noted that 2024 was declared the year of youth and business support in Uzbekistan.
