18 Criminal Cases Opened in Uzbekistan in First Half of 2025 Over Violence Against Children
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the first six months of 2025, 18 criminal cases were initiated in Uzbekistan in connection with incidents of violence against children. This was announced during a press briefing on 14 July, at which the Children's Ombudsman presented a summary of the office’s activities for the reporting period.
According to the press service of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights, a total of 885 complaints were submitted to the Ombudsman’s office during this period, with 665 cases currently under review. Notably, 20 of these complaints were filed directly by minors themselves. As a result of the investigations, 2 criminal cases and 5 administrative cases were opened.
In addition, through monitoring of online platforms, the Ombudsman identified 185 potential cases of children’s rights violations. These led to the opening of 16 further criminal cases and 22 administrative proceedings.
The reporting period also saw 21 on-site receptions held by the Ombudsman’s office, during which 87 individual complaints were reviewed.
Special attention was given to the issue of child repatriation: following requests from relatives abroad, five children were returned to Uzbekistan, and another was repatriated to Russia.
The Ombudsman’s office continues to receive complaints and monitor cases in order to ensure the protection of every child’s rights and interests.
