Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The staff of the Project on the development of the agro-industrial complex and ensuring food security monitored prices for food products in 28 positions in 4 retail outlets in Tashkent - Chorsu and Farkhad markets, Korzinka and Macro supermarkets. The monitoring took into account the lowest prices available at the outlet.
As part of the monitoring, it was revealed that compared to February 2021. prices for 20 items out of 28 have changed. For 3 items of white cabbage, potatoes and rice, there was a decrease in minimum prices within the range of 14.2-17.2%.
Prices for the remaining 17 items increased. The leader in price growth is an apple, the minimum price for which has doubled in 2 months.
Prices for a number of other types of fruit and vegetable products, such as tomatoes, beets, oranges, tangerines, cucumbers, also increased significantly - the increase in prices amounted to 20 to 50%. But the fact of seasonality plays a big role here and such price increases do not cause concern.

What you should pay attention to is the rise in prices for non-seasonal products. Chicken eggs are the leader in price growth among non-seasonal products. For 2 months, the minimum prices for them increased by 15.4%. The upward trend in egg prices is likely to intensify in the coming month, as Orthodox Christians will celebrate Easter in early May.
Prices for meat also increased significantly. Beef rose in price by 9.1%, chicken meat - by 8.8%, mutton - by 3.8%.
The prices for vegetable oil increased by 7.4% due to the rise in prices on the world market, especially in the countries importing this type of product to Uzbekistan.

The monitoring also studied the minimum prices for food products for the same 28 items in supermarkets in 16 capitals of the CIS countries and Europe and conducted a comparative analysis with prices in supermarkets in Tashkent.

2. Lemons
The minimum price for lemons in supermarkets in Tashkent is US$2.8 per kg, which is 69.4% higher than the average for the analyzed countries and 3.3 times higher than the minimum fixed price for lemons in Ankara.
3. Bananas
The minimum price for bananas in supermarkets in Tashkent is US$2.1 per 1 kg, which is 55.7% higher than the average for the analyzed countries and 2.7 times higher than the minimum recorded price for bananas in Moscow.
4. Pasteurized milk
The minimum price for milk pasteurized in supermarkets in Tashkent city is US$0.82 per 1 liter, which is 18.8% higher than the average for the analyzed countries and 93.0% higher than the minimum recorded price for milk in Bishkek. The main reason for the high prices for pasteurized milk is the undeveloped competition in the market.
5. Margarine
The minimum price for margarine in supermarkets in Tashkent city is US$2.2 per 1 kg, which is 20.2% higher than the average for the analyzed countries and 85.6% higher than the minimum fixed price for margarine in Bishkek.
6. Potatoes
The minimum price for potatoes in supermarkets in Tashkent is US$0.46 per kg, which is 2.3 times higher than the minimum fixed price for potatoes in Ankara.
7. Mandarins
The minimum price for tangerines in supermarkets in Tashkent city is US$1.7 per kg, which is 87.9% higher than the minimum fixed price for tangerines in Moscow.
8. Vegetable oil (sunflower)
The minimum price for vegetable sunflower oil in supermarkets in Tashkent city is US$1.7 per liter, which is 6.7% higher than the average for the analyzed countries and 2.0 times higher than the minimum fixed price for sunflower oil in Bishkek city.
9. Pasta
The minimum price for pasta in supermarkets in Tashkent city is US$0.83 per 1 kg, which is 83.4% higher than the minimum fixed price for pasta in Minsk.
10. Beef
The minimum price for beef in supermarkets in Tashkent city is US$5.2 per kg, which is 56.5% higher than the minimum fixed price for beef in Minsk.
