Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 February, the annual Parliamentary Hearings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the United Nations continued.

Every year during the General Assembly, IPU organizes parliamentary hearings for members of parliament to exchange views with United Nations officials, representatives of the UN diplomatic community, as well as leading scientists and experts. The participants noted that parliamentary diplomacy effectively contributes to solving the most pressing international and regional problems, strengthening the interaction of parliamentarians from different countries in search of answers to modern challenges and threats of corruption.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Vice-Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Union took part in the Parliamentary hearings and spoke.

In his speech, A. Saidov spoke about the progress in implementing the provisions of the UN Convention against Corruption in Uzbekistan, and also acquainted parliamentarians and participants with the measures taken by the parliament and the government of the country in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent corruption. It was emphasized that all these measures contribute to the implementation of SDG Goal 16, which includes a commitment by states to significantly reduce corruption and bribery in all their forms.

The participants in the Parliamentary Hearing were also informed about the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to adopt the International Code of Voluntary Commitments of States in the context of a pandemic in the context of strengthening social policy and fighting corruption.

Information on the legislative and institutional framework for combating corruption in Uzbekistan is presented. In particular, the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Council and the Anti-Corruption Agency. Information about the activities of parliamentary anti-corruption committees and similar commissions in local representative bodies aroused great interest.

In addition, the country has taken concrete measures to form an intolerant attitude towards corruption in society, and to introduce special anti-corruption courses in the curricula of educational institutions. A special internet platform e-anticor.uz and a mobile application are being created, with the help of which citizens can inform about the facts of corruption. Citizens who report incidents of corruption will be rewarded with monetary rewards. Work has begun on the preparation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2021 - 2025 with the active participation of national and international experts, representatives of civil society institutions.
