Uzbek FM takes part in the International Conference on Afghanistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 November 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the International Conference on Afghanistan in Geneva, which was held online.
The event was organized by the governments of the Republic of Finland and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as with the assistance of the UN. The conference was attended by representatives of over 100 countries, international and regional organizations, civil society and the media.
During the event, it was noted that Uzbekistan became one of the first states to welcome the start of intra-Afghan peace talks and actively contributed to their conduct. The republic is actively involved in the processes of establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward a number of important and relevant initiatives aimed at restoring the socio-economic life of the country.
It was emphasized that Uzbekistan provides assistance to Afghanistan in the field of power supply, construction of transport infrastructure, training of highly qualified personnel.
Special attention at the conference was paid to the issues of interaction against the spread of coronavirus infection, as well as overcoming its consequences. It was stated that in the context of a pandemic, Uzbekistan sent a number of humanitarian aid caravans to the brotherly Afghan people with basic necessities, food products, and medicines.
The participants of the forum highly appreciated the work carried out by Uzbekistan to promote the peace process and help restore the Afghan economy.
